How BelgiumNow works
What is happening in Belgium today, in short, plain English for people who live here but don't read Dutch or French. Every story links to the Belgian media it is based on.
Where the news comes from
We follow the main Belgian news media in Dutch and French: BRUZZ, De Morgen, De Standaard, Gazet van Antwerpen, HLN, HLN Antwerpen, Het Nieuwsblad, La DH, La Libre Belgique, Le Soir, RTBF Info, VRT NWS. When several of them report the same event, we combine what they say into one short story in English.
The reporting belongs to those media. Every story names them and links to their articles, so you can read the full version.
How stories are written
Stories are written with the help of AI. First the facts are taken from the outlets' headlines and introductions. Then a new text is written from those facts only, in plain English, with a short note on what the news means for people living in Belgium.
Before publishing, every story is checked automatically: dates, quotes and names of private people. Stories about crime, accidents, health or accusations wait for a human to approve them.
Mistakes
AI can get things wrong. If you see a mistake, please let us know; a contact address will be listed here soon.
